Workshop/industrial Kaunas

Kaunas offers many opportunities of cultural, architectural and artistic experiences. In the middle of Kaunas you’ll find the charming streets of the old town, which consists of buildings from many different time periods and in architectural styles. 

A little way north of the city lies a marvelous castle built in the 14th century in a captivating gothic style. It’s walls contain several centuries of history, which you can learn about on guided tours or just read about on a visit on your own.

Another type of fortress lies north of Kaunas, but with a completely different historical significance. The fortress consists of 9 forts, used and simultaneously built from 1889-1911 and used in both world wars. Especially the last and ninth fort has historical importance in WWII as it carries the gruesome weight of several agonizing years of the murder and torture og innocent Jews. Kaunas has plenty other things to offer than historically significant sights. 

Kaunas is and has been a centre of Lithuanian cultural life, economic and academic. Kaunas University of Technology is one of the largest of its kind in the Baltics and correspondingly leading in research in many areas. Many students travel from rural areas to settle and study in Kaunas, which brings a youthful energy to the town with bars, concerts, study groups in parks etc. Kaunas is also home to many other universities of different fields. The streets reflect the generally younger age average of Kaunas. Filled up cafés are on every corner, and modern shopping opportunities are in large numbers as well.

Settling in Kaunas is a fairly simple process, as the housing opportunities are broad, accessible and affordable. The city is also accessible by foot, bicycle, car and trolleybus fleet. Kaunas is conveniently located in the middle of Lithuania, making travel within the country easy.
